From the greeting at the front desk to a consultation with one of our skincare professionals, we expect that you’ll receive courteous service, and might even feel somewhat pampered. Our Mission
We believe that achieving optimal skin health as well as overall health and wellness begins from within. Diet, exercise, detoxification, hydration, hormonal balancing, and aesthetics are vital components to healthy aging. At SkinMD®, we are committed and passionate about helping each patient realize and obtain their healthy aging goals. We integrate prescriptive, cosmeceutical, neutraceutical, bioidentical hormone replacement, and the latest laser technologies to customize specific treatment plans.
“It was always a passion of mine to be a doctor and to open my own practice.” Founded in 2009 by Dr. Swayden, SkinMD offers a comfortable inviting setting to our patients that almost makes them forget they are at the doctor’s office. Our staff at both the Hurst and Weatherford locations are very friendly and make an extra effort to make you feel comfortable. We are glad you chose us for all of your skin care needs!

Tracie Swayden, MD

After winning back to back State Championships in 1993 and 1994 in Girls Class 5A Basketball at Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas, Dr. Tracie Swayden attended The Unviersity of Texas at Austin on a full ride basketball scholarship. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology in 1998.

She earned her medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio medical school in 2002. She completed her Internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. She completed a dermatology preceptorship and has been practicing dermatology for almost a decade. She has served Parker and Tarrant county residents throughout her career. Dr. Swayden is also a trained physician affiliate of Cenegenics Age Management Medicine which she obtained in 2007.

Dr. Swayden combines art, science, and medicine to achieve optimal skincare regimens and overall health goals for her patients. She is truly passionate about helping her patients feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside. One of her favorite procedures is lip enhancement with dermal fillers. “The face is like a canvas to me. I love creating facial symmetry and subleties that make the patient look good and feel good.”

Yang Xia, MD

Dr. Yang Xia (pronounced like “Shaw”) proudly serves as a Major in the United States Army in San Antonio, Texas.  He currently serves as Director of both Mohs Surgery and the Dermatology Vein Clinic at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center.

He is also a faculty member of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX.  He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 at Bagram Airfield where he earned the Bronze Star for his service in the Craig Joint Theater Hospital.

Dr. Xia graduated as salutatorian at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY.   He received his medical degree from the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD.  He completed his dermatology training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Bethesda Naval Hospital.  His Mohs surgery fellowship was with Dr. Hugh Greenway at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA.

Not only has Dr. Xia performed over 1500 Mohs surgery cases and over 1300 complicated wound repairs to include cutaneous flaps and grafts, he is an accomplished scholar with over twenty peer-reviewed publications.

 

Mark Brooks, PA-C

Mark is a Physician Assistant with 13 years of experience. PA Brooks began his Medical career in the United States Navy, which he served proudly for 14 years. Mark attended the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, in which he earned his Physician Assistant degree. Mark has trained under Board certified Dermatologists for the last 5 years. He completed a Dermatology internship at Scott and White Dermatology Dept in Temple, Texas in 2012. He is excited to bring his knowledge of dermatology to SkinMD.

His surgery experience includes over 300 excisions of malignant lesions and greater than 400 surgical repairs. Mark is trained in cosmetic dermatology and holds certifications in sclerotherapy, cosmetic injections (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport), and chemical peels. He is a member of several Dermatology organizations, The Skin of Color Society and National Psoriasis Foundation.

Mark’s philosophy is to “listen” to the patient and provide education to create an optimal outcome. “I feel strongly that combining cosmetic and medical dermatology will enhance the healthcare experience for the patient. I am passionate about delivering outstanding care to our patients helping them look and feel their absolute best.”

Karen Sticka, PA-C

Karen is a board-certified dermatology physician assistant who specializes in medical, surgical and cosmetic Dermatology. A native New Yorker, she graduated in 1997 from Canisius College in Buffalo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Sports Medicine. In 1999, she completed her studies as a Physician Assistant at LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY. Karen spent her early medical career in Emergency Medicine, diagnosing and treating everything from simple illnesses and injuries to life threatening conditions. She initially gained dermatology experience in cosmetic and laser procedures, and soon discovered her true passion.
In 2015, her extensive training, education and commitment to ongoing studies earned her the title of Diplomate Fellowship through the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. This status is the highest available achievement within the profession as recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology. She is also a member of the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants and and active member of the Texas Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants .
Karen provides a wide range of dermatologic care, such as skin cancer screening and treatments, acne, psoriasis, eczema and surgical excisions. She is also experienced in advanced skin rejuvenation techniques and uses a customized approach to each patient based on their lifestyle and needs. She believes that patient education and prevention is as important as diagnosis and treatment of their condition.
In her spare time, you can often find Karen on the baseball field cheering on her children, or trying out the newest food trucks with her husband.
